Your guitar instructor can be the most wonderful person, even the most wonderful guitar player in the world. But if they can't teach you well, then they are no good as teachers. Remember, you are the person who tries to learn the guitar and who pays for it, and what matters is your development, not your instructor's level of playing.

How to learn the guitar is actually a simple question. Yet the usual answer you get when you ask it to people around you may be misleading most of the time.

They'll tell you that all you need to do is to go and find a decent guitar instructor who will teach you everything you need to know to become a top-notch guitarist. Well, is this true?

Sure, but you may not be told the whole truth here. Guitar lessons may turn out a little bit different than you have expected for several reasons:

1 - You are actually limited to the skill level and most importantly to the teaching skills of your instructor.

2- When learning the guitar as a beginner, you'll tend to be shy playing with people around (and that's perfectly normal), so your lessons will sometimes suffer from this fact.

3- If you're not on Fortune 500, you probably won't have too much money to spend on guitar lessons and hence will try to make do with an hour a week or maybe less. This is simply not enough as too many factors can interfere with and actually render a week's lessons completely useless like being tired after a hard day at work or school and therefore not clearly understanding what you've just been shown.

4- Private guitar instructors usually tell you that you'll have to be patient to see any real progress. Translation: around five to six months of lessons and at least a thousand dollars in tuition fees.

At a certain point, you will realize that what your instructor is teaching you is not what you expected to learn in the first place. Sure the guitar notes and scales, all those finger exercises and whatnot will be useful in the long term. But what about those dreams you had about actually "playing"?

And worst of all, in the beginning you'll have a burning desire to learn and play the guitar, perhaps to learn some songs that you can sing to your loved one, or maybe to play a gospel at your church. But as soon as you delve into the endless jungle of practices and drills, you'll start to realize that the initial excitement is somehow getting lost. And you start to ask yourself: "oh well, is this all there is to it?"

Well then, isn't there a better way to learn the guitar? Indeed there is. It's not actually about reinventing the wheel. It's just a combination that will save you lots of money and time, and will help you play your guitar pretty much like a pro to impress your family and friends.
