Looking for blues guitar lessons " Why? Blues guitar formed the roots of most modern music i.e. Rock " Metal " Funk " R&B etc Many new guitar students like to start of with blues guitar because it less complex than say classical guitar and they can start making music faster and continue to be motivated.
Blues guitar is cool to learn when starting out because with some basic chords and scales the new guitar can start making music that sounds great in a very short time. Learning things like a basic scale, chords and some riffs will keep them interested in learning more.
When I first sit down with a new student I like to teach them the pentatonic scale on the guitar. Its easy because its a 5 note pattern. Students seem to remember this pattern easily plus this is the building block of things to come in additional guitar lessons.
With the removal of the conflicting (sour notes) from the pentatonic scale the student has more freedom to try different licks and melodies with the worry of playing out of tune. The pattern is simple to teach and easy for the student to memorize.
Power chords are typically the next lesson for blues guitar. This works well because power chords are built from the root note and the 5th note above that. So its a 2 note chord and easy for the student learn and apply.
The 12 Bar Blues is taught after the student has a handle on power chords. The cool thing is that they are so easy to learn and students keep staying focus wanting to learn more. Being a movable chord the power chord virtually becomes hundreds of chords.
A very common and a must know for students is the 12 Bar Blues progressions. Hundreds of songs have been derived from it and students will know many. The 12 Bar Blues follows a simple chord order that will be the building blocks for student down the line.
To boost my students interest I usually play a 12 Bar Blues and have them improvise a simple solo over it. Whats cool about this is that I get to take break LOL no but whats cool is the student finally gets the feeling composing their own music.
If they do not have means to record them we have an online jam box that loops hundred of backing tracks for them to try their hand at soloing and improvising.
Well I really hope to hang with you in the members area soon. If you want to really learn guitar and play the blues like a pro it can be done fast and easy right online. Why not blow away your family and friends with your new found talent. After all you owe it to yourself.
